Community Sharing Larder

Since 2020, CCP have been providing a Community Sharing Larder, which is open to all 24/7. The Larder was started in response to the effect of Covid on many household incomes. It is a practical way of helping households who experience loss of employment or low income and have to cope with the ever-increasing cost of living.

The Larder is intended for residents of the Cromarty Community Council area. Please respect this. If you live further away, please use your nearest food bank - see here.

Trustees oversee deliveries of supermarket surplus from FareShare and make regular trips to our local wholesalers to purchase those goods which are not included in the supermarket surplus deliveries. These include protein (e.g. tinned meat/fish, beans), milk, tea, coffee, laundry products, toothpaste, toilet rolls. All basic staples, and all of which are continuing to rise in price, putting extra pressure on family budgets.

We have seen increasing use of the Larder year-on-year, so food security continues to be a major concern in this community, as in many others. We know the Larder is a real lifeline for some folk and is appreciated by many in the community.

At the end of 2025 we commissioned a new Larder cupboard from the Black Isle Men’s Shed.  This was really appreciated by our wonderful volunteers! They are the ones we rely on to check and stock the Larder daily.

We are very grateful to all the funding bodies who have supported the stocking of the Larder since 2020. Our current funder is the Volant Charitable Trust, administered by Foundation Scotland.

If you would like to donate to the Larder, we are always especially grateful to receive toiletries. Please leave donations in the Donations Box beside the Larder Shed.
